LISTEN EARLY: "Memory" By Casters
Give Casters new single "Memory", from his upcoming EP 'Walk On Home', an early listen before it's out everywhere September 9.
Hey all,
For all our loyal followers, and to all our new followers, thanks for being here! We’ve got a lot of fun stuff coming up that we’re super excited about, and we’re getting back to sharing it with you directly…
A great example of that is the upcoming single from our good friend Casters, aka Andrew Strader, out this Friday. You may remember him from his excellent song Your House from our second annual sampler, Sampler, Vol. 2. Or maybe you remember him from the first single from his upcoming ‘Walk On Home’ EP Flower. If you don’t, then you’ve definitely got to check those songs out.

As a quick catch up, Strader’s Casters is a project from Brooklyn, NY by way of Nashville & Knoxville, TN. Over the past couple of years he’s transplanted from the South, the home he’s known his whole life, to his new home in the Northeast. All the while, he’s been working on writing & recording the follow-up to his debut album Little Death in between playing with other bands, such as D.D. Island.
This track was recorded both in Brooklyn & Nashville and features our very own Agustin Escalante (Keeps, Peter One, Molly Parden) on some production & Neil MacLean (Home Visions, Griffin Moyer) on keys/synth, plus the incredibly tight Indianapolis drummer Connor James (Pat & The Pissers, Wishy, & Heaven Honey) holding down those skins. It was a true pleasure getting to have Connor on this track, as he just happened to be in town playing a show the night before, had nothing to do on his day off. He learned the song in a few takes, took a pass or two, and we stuck with what we got. Take a peek at the single’s cover below:

Here’s a few words from Andrew on the single:
This one is the oldest of the bunch. I first demoed it in my bedroom living in Knoxville in early 2021. It sat around collecting dust for awhile because I couldn’t sing it in a way that felt comfortable. It’s tuned half a step down in drop C#. I made it with a really fast drum machine beat that you can still hear faintly in some parts of this mix. It went through several iterations in the studio. We tried multiple synth lines, guitar leads, etc. and slowly cobbled together something that felt right. I had to pull teeth to [finish] this one and sort of accept when I had done all I felt I could do with it. My favorite section of this one is the jangly solo I wrote for the instrumental section. I used my Strat on the bridge pickup with just a bunch of reverb and nothing else. If you listen closely, you can hear this amplifier breakup that just happened due to some weird electronic grounding issue naturally. We used that specific take because we thought it sounded cool.
