Listen: "Blood on the Tracks"
Listen to Ryan Sobb's new single "Blood on the Tracks" 🤠
Howdy folks! We’ve been slacking lately on posts, so we figured we’d deliver Ryan Sobb’s new slacker rock single a day early as a treat to our paid subscribers.
We’re real proud to have Ryan as the newest member of the family and to introduce “Blood on the Tracks” as the first single from his new self titled album out later this year.
Some words from Ryan Sobb & his producer Scottie Prudhoe of Tracehorse Studios….
“I have worked with Ryan and the guys for a long time now and the greatest disconnect I saw with most of the recordings we had done in the past was the failure to capture what I had seen this band accomplish in live settings, a powerhouse trio of rock guitar, bass and drums. With this record I sought to capture that vision the band was demonstrating night after night. I don’t often make rules when going into the studio, but for this record I told the band we would only be doing overdubs of vocals, guitar, bass and drums (no keys, no no samples, nothing fancy) and if someone in the room couldn’t perform the part then it wouldn’t go on the album. We put a lot of emphasis on guitars. Guitar is and always has been my favorite instrument and with the sonic landscape of the record I wanted to focus on the guitar in its most basic and core sound. The few effects pedals we used were all designed in the mid 60s representing the genesis of what made electric guitar great. The amps we used were all Fender amps from 3 choice decades of guitar history. A small tweed from the 50s, a Silverface from the 70s and a larger fender from the 90s. All of these amps painted a full sound drawing from what made most of our favorite music so great. Finally, the songs always came first. Which guitar, which bass, which microphone, which tone best served the song to allow the listener to experience in its truest form. In many ways this record was a love letter to the guitar and it’s place in music, but also a love letter to our friends and family who have supported us all these years. I hope you love it as much as we do.
With many records I’ve made in the past it’s not always obvious where the ‘singles’ lie within the batch of tunes. Unlike what may people think it’s not always the best songs. Rather I’ve always felt you should choose the songs that perfectly embody the ethos of a record when promoting it. Out in the Country is perfectly that song and was obvious to us very early in process. All hands were on deck. Everyone who made this record doing the best aspects of what they brought to the table on one track.”
