This will actually serve as a recap for the first few months of 2023 so far. Sorry for the radio silence, but the three of us (Collin, Gusti, and I) are, to put it simply, some busy boys. I will do my best though to make at least a post a month from here on out, as well as to encourage some artists to write a couple posts here and there.
January
Anyhoo, what’s been goin’ on? Well, in January, we signed Josie Toney, an extremely accomplished fiddle player and down-to-earth sweetheart with a firm finger on the pulse of all things americana. Collin met her late last year, and things just felt right on both ends. Her record ‘Extra’ came out early last month, AND she graced the stage at our showcase at SXSW both as her own act and with the Family Band, but I’m getting ahead of myself.
Around that time, we also set up a couple of shows at City Winery Nashville (not the big venue, but The Lounge upstairs) that were well received. They were so kind to us and all the artists we invited. I got a few pictures to share from those shows, which you can see below.
February
And that gets us into February, which by and large was pretty quiet, at least externally. We were prepping for Josie’s release to have CD’s made while Collin was working with Oh Boy! Records (his main 9 to 5), Hattie B’s, Montucky, and Parish (a venue in Austin, Texas) to put together a showcase during SXSW. Not officially a part of SXSW, mind you, but during. Massive props to Collin for that monumental effort - we couldn’t have done it without you! Additionally, some doppelgangers were busy promoting and putting on their celebratory show for the 60th Anniversary of their hit record ‘Captain Culture and the Regular Tractor Noises Reinvent the Wheel’, which seems like a bit of a mouthful to me, but I’m not the one with multiple triple-platinum records and shelves upon shelves of Grammys.
March
In March, all focus was on SXSW. Hannah and I printed a ton of merch on anything cool we could find from Goodwill, which was graciously transported piecemeal down to Austin either by Josie or Oliver of Volunteer Department. I reserved an AirBnB about 10 minutes from downtown, and most of us packed in there like sardines, leaving at ~10 AM each day and usually not making it back until 2 AM or later. We got to see our resident Texan, Gusti, truly in his element, as well as see him play with Peter One, which was an absolute treat. Then it was the day of our joint showcase, Saturday the 18th: Part of the deal was that Hattie B’s and Montucky would be giving away free Nashville hot chicken and beer respectively during the event. We had the venue from 12 - 5:30, with Like You Mean It booking the first half of the event and Oh Boy! booking the back half. Below are the two posters promoting the event! Here’s a link to an album of some of the photos and videos I took as well.
April
Early April saw the release of Josie Toney’s record, ‘Extra’. Like I mentioned before, we had some CD’s made, Hannah and I helped by printing some tees, and she had a lovely release show at Dee’s Country Cocktail Lounge. I was out of town for a family event, but I heard it was a blast… and you can too! Dee’s always goes live on Facebook and then the performances live there in perpetuity so without further ado, here’s a link to Josie’s 'Extra' release show! (Her set starts at 1:55:30) The three of us are extremely honored to be helping out with this release because it’s just that good. If you haven’t heard it, I don’t know what’s wrong with you. CD and shirt mockups are below, which are available for purchase here.
May… and beyond?
And that gets us a lil closer to today! I can’t believe it’s May already. We’ve released two Griffin Moyer singles, “Escaping Me” and “Take Me Back”, of which the former came out yesterday, in anticipation of his record ‘Liar’s Disguise’ coming out next Friday, May 12. We welcomed another artist, Tommy P, who has his EP ‘No, Tommy!’ coming out the week after on May 19.
Of course there’s much, much more coming down the pipeline. Some things we’re looking forward to that we feel comfortable talking about are:
We’re releasing a posthumous record called ‘Distant Cousins’ by Carter Holland, finished by Jones Kolbinsky on June 8 that we’re super excited about.
We filmed an in-studio performance for Griffin’s singles that should come out soonish. Paid subscribers will have the first look at those videos as soon as they’re ready.
We also filmed an in-studio performance for another artist on our roster (I’ll keep those cards close to the vest for now).
And lastly, the Like You Mean It Records Sampler, Vol. 3 is officially in the works slated for an early summer release, but we’ll keep ya posted!
Paid subscribers will enjoy some early concepts for the Sampler art below. Thanks y’all! Hopefully the next update is early next month, but it’s lookin’ like it’ll have to be sooner so… STAY TUNED!
